A constant story telling success every month that plays to the strengths of the monthly comic pamphlet format. Always a pleasant addition to a stack at the LCS, Jonah Hex never fails. Why? Classic genre writing that pays homage to the legends that got it here, while being a gorey sexfest. Palmiotti and Gray have too much fun writing this and it shows. Big tits, whiskey bottles shot out of mouths, mustaches, scoundrels, dusty streets, horse russlin’, they’re all here. Art by Jordi Bernet evokes John “the beast” Severin, and that’s awesome! Latina good time girl Chula is this summers hottest woman thanks to Bernets lovely brush strokes (take that Hope Summers). If anyone could be a detractor of this series it’s from the stand point that not enough changes. The done in one stories don’t foster a story telling style that creates long term dramatic changes and movie style story arcs. To them I say, GO WATCHA @#!$%$#IN’ MOVIE. We started reading comics like this (1950’s-1980’s style exposition heavy teen fantasies) and we need more of em’. I love events and crossovers and variant holofoil covers as much as the next guy, but how awesome would it be to be twelve years old and stumble on these Jonah Hex comics, that take the genre to its ultimate result. A twenty two page blood and guts fueled operatic drama true to its heart.
