Underwhelming. In a word, this arc takes all of the excitement associated with Iron Man these days (an exceptionally successful movie, the center-stage positioning of the character following Civil War) and simply fails to move it in any noticeable direction. It's not bad; moreover, it is bland, like a college football team that runs off tackle almost every play. There is action and the occasional dialog with Dum Dum Dugan and Maria Hill, but they seem perfunctory.
The arc focuses on an old Central Asian scientist and friend of Tony Stark's, who has now gone bad following government mistreatment. How many times have we seen this plot - I was a good guy, but the government killed my wife, so now I will embrace evil? Innovative and creative criminal motivations are out there - Busiek does them beautifully in Astro City, and Bendis stretches the limit in Powers. The other plot point, involving a former SHIELD agent who becomes integrated with a satellite with the power to launch nuclear weapons also seems uninspired (though it generates some decent art).
If I weren't a subscriber to this book, I would probably drop it. There are some fantastic Marvel stories right now. As recently as two issues previous, this book was up there with the best of them (well, not Captain America). Not this arc, however. Let's hope for an upswing soon.
