This is where jumping into this title finally catches up
with me.

Since I began reading Invincible
I have enjoyed it immensely but came into the series during the Viltrumite
War.  And while that was exciting, the
war has come to an end and now everyone is returning home.  Returning to the lives and loved ones they
had to leave behind when the war started.

So I have no idea who these people are nor am I aware of any
of the situations and circumstances behind discussed.

For readers who have been on since the beginning, or at
least longer than myself, I’m sure they are getting so much more out of this
comic than I am.

So why even review it?
Why talk about something I don’t know anything about?

I bring it up because my being lost is not completely a bad
thing.  I’m hanging in there pretty well
if I say so myself.  And I feel that
that’s a testament to the creative team that despite my lack of familiarity
with these characters I still feel the way (I assume) I’m supposed to when I
read it.  It’s only the gap between how I
feel and how I should or could feel that’s making this more difficult.

This actually gives me a unique point of view as opposed to
someone who has been reading for sometime now, or even since the
beginning.  Coming in during the war,
with the main characters, gives me a perspective of them only in that light.  As if I’m someone who met them in battle,
served with them and then returned home with them.  I see them as heroes from a battlefield, not
as the people they were before they left.
I’m not familiar with their lives before the battle and as such I’m
learning about them in a completely different context and I’m enjoying the new
dynamic.

Where we go from here I really don’t know.  I say that a lot but this time I really mean
it.  I have no idea what could possibly
happen next and I find that fascinating.
See what can happen when you’re not afraid to jump in?

  1. Awesome review. Well-written with an interesting perspective on reading comics that has a thematic connection to the issue.

Look forward to reading more of your reviews.

  2. Give you credit for jumping in mid-stream. Maybe go back to the beginning and give us more of your perspective on this series?
