Page one hit me like a punch in the throat. The following few pages found me frantically trying to come to terms with what I was reading, and just when I settled into a new comfort zone, the final page yanked the rug right out from under me.
This is a spoiler-free review, so I can’t say much more than this: Kirkman managed to do something this issue that I don’t think has ever been done before in a modern comic. Reading this issue, I was reminded of the fact that even though the characters and setting appear at first glance to be shallow and cartoony, there’s a solid story being told and some genuine character growth taking place.

The status quo in this series has been changed, and I’m pretty excited about seeing where it goes from here.
