Ahh.....a team of misfit teenagers with matching uniforms thrown together to fight tyranny and evil...hmmm...where have we heard that concept before? AchooXMen...excuse me, where were we? Ahh yes...Infinity Inc. #8...with a pretty nifty cover advertising their "first team adventure"...#8...yes, you are better off just forgetting the first 7 issues. In all actuallity, this IS the best issue of the series so far and I think a new direction was mandated in order to save it. I want to like this book. I want to like this team. It had such great promise and hope from the pages of 52. I love Peter Milligan and the art is a vast improvement from the previous moody, dark pencils in the first seven issues, but this team has lots of problems. This issue actually finally allows us to see the formation of a true team, complete with matching uniforms. OK, i actually think it's a good idea. We have the bald-headed mentor (Professor...er I mean Steel), his daughter Natasha, the Eric/Erika duality person, complete with what I would imagine to be 'unstable molecules' in his/her uniform to allow for boobies? ...and there are some more members, but i can't really remember them right now! And that's the problem: This book lacks focus. I'm not so sure DC knows what to do with this team. With the legacy name, they might be better off with the nostalgia approach and tie-in with the Justice Society? For now, the team is in search of other mutants...er, I mean, other rejects from Luthor's failed Everyman Project. I kind of see this title as a mish-mash of the X-Men, (there I said it), the Order, and DC's Doom Patrol (old-school style.)
Here's hoping that this first mission pays off for us the reader and DC in sales, or this book, like Luthor's Everyman Project, is doomed!
