I've never written a review for a comic before, hell, I've never written a review for anything before. I'm typically of the mind that the world doesn't really want, let alone need, to know my opinions about anything. I wanted to write a review of this issue of Incredible Hulk, however, because the Hulk has always been one of my favorite characters and the direction Jason Aaron is taking the Emerald Giant is very exciting to me. I've been in and out of reading comics for the better part of 20 years and what always seems to bring me back in is a fresh take on the Hulk. Some of those have been successful (Peter David), some not so much (Bruce Jones). When I heard that Aaron would be taking over after Pak, a run I dropped off of earlier than I wanted to due to financial concerns, I was excited to find out where he was going to take the character. 1 issue in, I'm excited. The idea of Banner and the Hulk being split isn't necessarily new, but turning Banner into the hunted monster is an idea that I never expected. The hulked out boars on Banner's island were creepy comic relief and the idea of a psychotic banner trying to recreate the Hulk, for an unknown (at least to me) reason is frightening. As some others have said, the art did feel a little rushed at points, in the overhead shot of banner working on the big green gorilla it took me a second to realize that it wasn't a giant, green, fuzzy hand, but overall, I really enjoyed the dynamism of Silvestri's pencils. Basically, I'm hooked and I can't wait to see where this storyline goes. Thanks for reading, and thanks for the podcast iFanboys.
