Now, I was one of the readers who left this book when Brubaker, Fraction and Aja left the book. At first I thought I was going to give the new creative team a chance --- after all, how many martial arts comic books are out there? (Yeah, the last issue of Wolverine: First Class... whatever) But I never followed up on that thought.
When I checked out the Marvel solicits and saw the artist for this issue is none other than Timothy Green, I knew this is the time to go back --- and I am glad that I did. Timothy Green's art has a very serene, simple look. His lines are definitive without a crap load of ink to add emphasis. The future Iron Fist's movement is fluid, and you can feel the impact of every punch and kick. Green is PERFECT for this martial arts sci-fi.
The story? Not bad at all. It reminded me of a bunch of mangas and anime I've seen in the past, especially Akira. The ultimate fight in the end Cyborg Fat Cobra vs. Young Iron Fist is just way too awesome to pass. Swierczynski and Green have created an awesome one shot story that can make you believe --- one (iron fist) punch can change the future.
PS: If you want more Timothy Green goodness, check out Annihilation Conquest mini "Starlord."
Art: 5 - Excellent
