This issue of I, Vampire, see the introduction of new artist, Dennis Calero, and while the art is not a startling change it definitely suffers from the loss of previous artist Andrea Sorrentino. The problem with having the same creative team on a title for long stretches is that if the writer or artist (or both) leave the book no longer feels quite the same. In this case, since issue one, Sorrentino has defined the look and feel of the world in I, Vampire and Calero’s mimicking of his style lacks the graphic finesse as Sorrentino’s work. That being said, Calero’s art is not bad but is not quite a page turner either. The story that Fialkov is weaving is good and fun but is more like candy than a full meal. I’ve been picking this book up since #1 but now that Sorrentino is gone this may be my last arc for the series. It’s still a good book but I would find myself recommending the first trade instead of this issue.
