The main feature was ok but the back-up was ridiculous.
The main feature was a team up between Angel, Iceman and the Hulk battling robot Harpies. It fits nicely into continuing Hulk story and has a nice little resolve for Angel as well. The art was nice and clean and the writing was ok. I'd give a 3 to each.
The back up featured a lonely Bruce Banner drinking at a bar that Dazzler has decided to have a warm up show at. Apparently, Dazzler's into scrawny little dudes because Bruce is the man of her desires. She pulls him up, onto stage and we're "treated" to a page of Bruce Banner dancing with Dazzler.
Bruce Banner, the Hulk, dancing with Dazzler.
Dazzler is so impressed with Bruce "da moves" Banner that she decides he must attend her big show the next night. Bruce goes into full "I can never relax because when I do, Hulk smashes" interior monologue mode but a bartender tells Bruce to lighten up and have a good time. Bruce being the ROCKET SCIENTIST that he is decides, this is good advice. And we all know where this is going...
Banner goes to the show, Dazzler again thinks he's dreamy, pulls him on stage and then she decides to jump his bones. This, of course, sets off a mad flurry of cell pictures..which threaten and scare Bruce...and we all know what happens when Bruce is threatened and scared.
Hulk appears and is attacked by Dazzler's back up band(yup) and Dazzler makes a quip about how hard it is to find good back ups(a little meta if I do say so). Then there's the epic battle of Hulk vs Dazzler, where Dazzler shoots Hulk with colourful lights and he stands there while she explains how her powers work. Hulk jumps away and we're treated to Dazzler complaining about the bill for the wrecked concert hall.
The last page features mopey Banner giving his usual spiel("I can never relax because the Hulk will smash") but then realizes that Dazzler thought he was a good dancer...so he does a little hop and a heel click. End scene.
I totally understand that this was meant to be a goofy, throw away story. But if you're going to go goofy, go over the top. The art was done in a realistic style and the writing had bits of super seriousness. Neither of which fits a story about Bruce Banner dancing with Dazzler. What could've been silly fun was a mess of styles that didn't mesh in anyway.
I'd give the writing a 1 and the art a 2.
