Oh dear...
Up until the last page I was thoroughly enjoying Hulk #15. Sure, it was pretty much a battle between the Red Hulk's gang and Wolverine's X-Force; and sure there was some awful dialogue littered throughout ("I'm going to chop your tongue off"). But it was fun.
Then I got to that last page.
And that fun factor dissipated. Just like that it vanished. My opinion of the issue shifted dramatically. From Fun & Enjoyable to... Just Plain Dumb.
Jeph Loeb's Hulk has been a title I could pick up, switch off my brain, and enjoy the incredible artwork. The story throughout the 15 issues has been, to put it mildly, pretty unspectacular - but Loeb knows he's working with some of the best artists in the business and allows them to express themselves with large panels, double-paged spreads, etc. There have been several clunky moments throughout Loeb's run on the title but I've managed to look past these and enjoy the book for what it is.
But that last page in Hulk #15 - I'm sorry, but it ruined it for me.
The last page - SPOILERS! - shows Red She-Hulk appearing, seemingly out of nowhere.
Red She-Hulk; seriously?
I realize how preposterous this sounds; I'm quite willing to accept a green Hulk and red Hulk; I'm willing to accept a green She-Hulk.
And yet I cross the line at a red She-Hulk.
I'm not even sure why. All I know is, I read that last page and I thought: lame.
I'll give Loeb another issue or two to explain the situation, but I don't hold much hope for that. After all, we still have no idea who Red Hulk is and he is the protagonist of this book.
