Something about the cover grabbed me.  Hit Monkey.  Hit Monkey?  Really?  I picked it up.  It wasn’t a Marvel Apey kind of thing.  Art didn’t look bad.  I carried it to the counter with my weekly stack, but when I pulled my wallet out, I told my LCS guy that I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, but he convinced me to give it a shot.

It read like an 80’s indy adventure comic.  A skilled (human) assassin is on the lam, injured, and taking refuge in the wild.  Snow monkeys take him in at their hot-spring pool.  One monkey in particular, keeps a distrustful eye on him and learns the assassin’s deadly skills through observation.

It could happen.  Monkeys are caring and observant.  “Monkey see, Monkey do.”   Tarzan.  Sure it could happen!

Does the assassin’s spirit now reside in the Hit Monkey?  Will the monkey get revenge?

The fact that I want to know, means that something special happened in this comic. It reminds me of some of the shorter stories in Marvel’s Epic Illustrated magazine like Alan Moore used to do.  This would have read great in anthology like Epic.

Hit Monkey?  Yeah, Hit Monkey.

If this weren’t a one-shot, I’d get issue #2.
