I wanted to just jump in on reading comics this week and wanted to read something fresh so I went to ifanboy’s pool of comics to pull and looked for some good number 1 issues and read Higher Earth #1.

I’m not familiar with the writer nor the artist but this is a solid book that i found to be a breeze to read despite being a first issue and having a lack luster attempt to capture my interest. The cover that i got gave a very good idea of what i’m in for and was not let down with the premise of multiple/parallel dimensions or versions of earth. The concept of hierarchy amongst the earths is probably the star of this book so far and sort of saddles the 2 seeming protagonists on the back seat. The 2 said characters are all but archetypes at this point and hopefully more is to be seen next issue.

The art is somewhat inconsistent for me and the dialogue is a bit laced with exposition but that being said accomplished the purpose of showing the story to the reader solidly. There are some layout, framing and paneling problems for me and had to reread some of the panels to see what actually happened but i can understand that this is a common hicup of not knowing who these characters are.

I’ll probably give this 2 or 3 more issues before i drop it but as a starting point its not a bad jump.
