This is a depressing review to write. Not only is it the last issue of Herc, but it’s a kind of sour note to leave on. This is not to critique Pak & Van Lente, who turn in a very solid script with their usual mix of action and humor, but it’s clear that this was not intended to be the last issue. I suspect it was rushed to simply to finish the story arc. While there weren’t a ton of hanging plot threads, it’s a shame it wasn’t given another issue or two to wrap things up properly. Also David Hahn’s art here didn’t really work for me. It’s not awful, but seems heavily inked and I found several instances where I couldn’t tell the difference between Hercules and Zeus when you saw them in the panel from the neck up. The Incredible Hercules series was given a great sendoff and even it’s own mini-event to see it end, and while it’s hardly surprising with the current Marvel cutoff line that this series had to end, I wish it had been given a chance for a better ending.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 2 - Average
