i went into this hopeful, as i have some affection for old-school haunted tank stories. but a comment likening this to at terrible sit-com idea was dead on. what happens when you get a confederate ghost tasked to protect his black ancestor? sparks will fly! and for good measure, the other crewmen of the tank, in addition to the stereotypical angry black man, appear to be a redneck with a penchant for confederate history, a serious korean, and a foul-mouthed latino. i'm sure ghostly jeb stuart will have hilarious encounters with them in later issues, because he's from the racist past. and i'm sure in the end they'll all learn to get along and appreciate each others differences. sigh.

a book like this makes me appreciate someone like garth ennis, who can handle violence and obscenity with humor. the book is terribly unfunny, and i don't care a lick for any of these characters, who seem to have no depth. the art was the only good element - some great facial expressions, particularly the shock of jeb stuart when he realizes his ancestor is a black man. but it's not enough to save the book.
