This might have been the best issue of Haunt so far, but it might also have been two great issues of comic forced a little clumsily into 22 pages. I think the hope is that this would be a good jumping on point for people – this issue coming out that same time as the first trade – but even having read every issue so far I still had trouble following everything that happened.

In the issue we revisit most of the events in the first arc, but seen through the eyes the recently introduced character, Mirage. As a self contained story this is structured beautifully. There isn’t a story beat from the first arc that isn’t made more powerful by gaining this new perspective on it, such that I’m exponentially more excited to read what comes next than I was coming into this one-shot. Still, there is an awful lot of information to absorb quickly, and a lot of threads to try and keep straight. Kirkman handles all this information masterfully, but I’m still not sure this is a good jumping on point. Come back next month.
