Valiant is doing something really special in their corner of the comic book store. One of my favorite things about reading a comic book is when the writer starts 'world building.' In this issue we get to see inside the Harbinger Foundation. We see the kids in the school, meet some of the teachers, and get a couple of great hints at what's to come. Really neat to see the Bleeding Monk again, as he's a very striking character (both story-wise and art wise) Some painful flashbacks with Peter's past were the highlight of the book for me. I feel like Peter is a great character, very much on the cusp of being either an amazing hero or being pushed into a terrible villain. This issue lays a lot of great seeds down for some interesting plot points in the future. I wish this book was getting more pulls. The writing is strong, and the art compliments the story perfectly. I had no idea about anything Valiant and I picked up Harbinger #1 on a whim, and I've fallen in love with the Valiant universe. I pick up all of their books and cannot recommend this enough. The stories work well in each issue, so it's really easy to start anywhere.
