The iFanboys love comics where a new team comes together.  If you’re like them, this may be a fantastic issue for you.  Personally, I hate them.  I just didn’t connect with these characters, in the same manner I
didn’t connect with the Battle Pope, Tech Jacket, or Brit series.  I’m not sure if this is because he’s cowriting it, or whether it’s my own prejudice against this style of comic.  If this series wasn’t written by Kirkman, I would not be picking up the second issue.

Getty’s art is in the fashion of Invincible, but it just doesn’t live up to Ottley or Rathburn.  It’s just off enough that I wish he’d done an entirely style.  There are also several different colorists, and two different inkers on this book.  And, unfortunately, it seems like it was done out of being rushed, and not for storytelling reasons.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good

Comments

  1. I was looking forward to this, but the dialogue on the first two pages alone was so bad, I’m completely turned off. I’ll throw it under my bed and maybe read more later, but I sure am glad I did not preorder more than the first issue.

  2. I’m hoping it’s just a slow start.  Sometimes a good book has a meh first issue.  But if the second issue doesn’t markedly improve, I’m definitely going to dtop the title.
