I’m a relative neophyte to GL books at all, but so far this one is hitting where I want it to. The mystery of the ring-thief is still sort of in the background here, but at the forefront of the plot is the Orrery, which is sort of like what would happen if you took a Dyson Sphere and stripped away the sphere part, I guess. Which is to say, there’s some neat sci-fi adventure happening.

The characters are written fine and are clearly distinct, and somehow I don’t find Glomulus, Larfleeze’s construct, completely intolerably irritating. I expected to.

The art, though, feels a bit sketchy. The big strokes look fine, but a lot of the little details don’t bear close inspection; one panel in which Larfleeze’s ring is quite visible makes it look like the ring was scribbled onto the linework by a four-year-old with a magic marker.

This continues to not be an outstanding book, but it’s a good one nonetheless.
