New Guardians is a better book when it goes easy on the exposition. I’m a big fan of the Green Lantern mythologies and the back-story but it can get deep in a hurry. This book comes off the rails a little in trying to get a lot of info in under the wire in setting up the Third Army arc.

The art here is serviceable but it feels rushed as well. This book is always great color-wise for obvious reasons but some panels look muddled here.

Bedard has been doing a great job so far on this title when it focuses on the characters and their interactions. The issues focusing on Arkillo and the Blue Lanterns were major highlights. But when we get into solar system sized space ships it can get epic to the detriment of everything else. I’m hoping that after the Zero issue this title gets back on track, exploring how these disparate character form a functioning team.
