I have avoided Green Lantern books for the last several years.  I did not want to get involved with the endless string of events (Blackest Night, Brightest Day, now the War of the Green Lanterns – it never ends … ).

When I read on the DC Comics message boards that this was a done-in-one story, and I found I had a spare $3 in my wallet this week, I bought this issue, and I am very happy that I did!

Jerk that he is, I really enjoy Guy Gardner stories – so long as he is free of that Warrior mumbo-jumbo.  I loved the first yer or so of his solo series from back in the early 1990s.

This issue reminded me why I like Guy Gardner stories so much: lots of action, a decent dose of humor, and a nice shot of romance.

As my fellow reviewer said, we’ve seen stories like the one told in this issue before.  But that’s not so uncommon in comics, and I feel that worked in the favor of this one-shot issue.  It gives the reader a sort of base, a status-quo to go to after a long event.

I’m glad to see that the remaining issues of this book are going to be done-in-ones and I will be sure to get them.  It’s good to get back with the Green Lanterns!

  1. I’ve been reading GL for a while but Gardner hasn’t stuck to me until recently. Guess it’s the red lantern thing just making sense to me. Though I had no part in making this it still always makes me happy to see people enjoying new books. I try to get at least one out of my norm book a week.
