I’m going to let you in on something: Green Lantern Corps. has long been my favorite Green Lantern title. I like the different lanterns, the space-spanning adventures, seeing the depth and richness of the GL concept.

That said, the Alpha War hasn’t been my favorite storyline. I think the single-minded obedience of the Alphas is a bit off-putting. I mean, I get why things were done this way, but I felt like the recent events would have inspired a bit more loyalty to their fellow corps members.

This final chapter sort of redeemed it for me. The big battle, the choices made, the feeling of genuine menace…it all comes together and makes me excited to see what happens next.

That’s what’s great about Tomasi. He has snack for balancing voices and action, keeping it compelling. In other hands, this might feel a bit by the numbers in places. Not with Tomasi. He’s made the Corps something the readers can invest in.

The art on this issue is solid as well. Good action scenes, nice flow. Not my favorite art mind you, but still enjoyable.

GLC remains the GL book for me, epic and personal at the same time and always leaving me wanting more. And the way Tomasi and Johns have been setting things up, I can’t wait to see the payoff.
