Goon, how do I love thee?  Let me count the ways.  Wait… DO I still love thee?

The Goon used to be pretty much unequivocally my favorite comic book, but I’m not positive that I can say that anymore because I’m not sure how I feel about the much more serious tone this book has
begun to take.  I enjoy that the plot is more focused now, than it’s
been in the past, but I miss the humor.  If there’s one think I used to
be able to depend on The Goon for it was that it would make me belly
laugh every single time I read it.

Part of me is also a little afraid about whether or not Powell can keep it up with telling a legitimate story.  He certainly proved himself with Goon: Chinatown, but who knows if that was a one time deal.  I know he can write one offs, that are pretty much absurdist, and I’d hate for the book to decline in quality for wont of a tonal shift.  But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, I desperately hope he’ll pull it off because I’d hate to not desperately love this comic.

Story: 4 - Very Good
