This review is solely for Carla Speed McNeil’s story MIXOLOGY AT TERATO GENA’S. McNeil’s art is perhaps an acquired taste, but she is a master of acting, expression and panel to panel storytelling. This short X-story involves a couple of running gags, based around Kitty Pryde’s character and her history of ‘First Days’ and ‘Birthdays’. Each Marvel character cameo is served a drink appropriate to their character or superhero moniker with often hilarious results. This is a really cute story that nails what makes many of these characters appealing. Some other stories in this issue are good, particularly that of Ann Nocenti and Molly Crabapple, but I wanted to highlight McNeil’s as my favourite X-story of this year.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
