Wow. So far all I'm reading is how much everybody loved this ending. I am really going to have to disagree. I have loved this series since it began and The X-Men have and always will be my favorite Team. But Goddammit this was such a WTF ending.
Seriously. What was the deal with all of the heroes going into a trance and just dreaming about being the solution? That is never resolved. All of those heroes brought together just to be put into and trance and become worthless to the story just felt easy and cheap. Maybe I missed something and need to go back and reread it.
I never felt that Earth was in danger because I knew the moment that Kitty was launched in the "Bullet" at the end of the last issue, if it came down to it she would just phase it through the planet. I think that Whedon and Cassaday were trying to play up up the peril of Earth by bringing in all the other heroes and make this seem like a major threat that had to be taken care of. But any longtime X-Men fan could see what Kitty was going to do from a mile away.
All of that nonsense and that isn't even what really pissed me off about this issue. EVERYBODY JUST GIVES UP?!?! WTF? "Oh well, Kitty is going to be forever trapped in a giant space bullet that's hurtling through space." . "Yeah, Reed Richards and a few other guys tried a couple of things that didn't work so we're just going to forget about it and move on.". Son of a bitch! She just saved the F-ing planet and your just giving up? Have you tried attaching a ship to the "Bullet" and having Wolverine cut through the shell at the front compartment where she's trapped? Have you thought about pacing the "Bullet" and having Emma psychically transmit what Kitty can see on the inside of the "Bullet" to Kurt so he can Teleport in and BAMF them both out?
To be fair to this series which I have loved, here are things I did like in this issue:
Colossus becoming a little more hard on the inside as well as the outside.
Emma's tears. Although I think the "loss" of Kitty scene should have been more powerful with them being telepathically linked.
The scene between Logan and Armor was nice, although the depiction of Logan's grief should have been more powerful and not just one panel of him getting drunk.
If I'm missing something here maybe it's due to a lack of proper storytelling from the writer and the artist. Cassaday's art is, as always beautiful. But I am giving it a 4 for not conveying the whole message of whatever Whedon was trying to convey. And I'm giving Whedon a 2 for ending what I have considered the best run on X-Men since the Dark Phoenix Saga with this cop out finale.

I initially accidentally posted this comment on the wrong review:
I can understand the initial puzzled/frustrated reaction, but give it a chance to sink in and take another couple reads or two. This comic has *always* worked that way, I think. Something about the combination of Whedon’s writing and Cassaday’s visuals (because Whedon’s other comics aren’t like this) requires some processing. It’s nothing new. I remember staring at issue 14 going WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED. That’s actually why I started reading other comics in the first place (including Dark Phoenix Saga and most of Morrison’s run). So I could figure out what Joss and John were doing.
