Most issues of the regular G. I. Joe series have left me wanting something; they’re fun and everything, but when you consider the high level of quality seeping from Origins, Cobra and Real American Heroes, this main series seems to just fall flat. This issue was no different; it features the Joe’s on a mission, and spliced between the talky bits are scenes of muddy action that just don’t have the usual flair and brilliance I’ve come to expect from a G. I. Joe comic book. This isn’t totally a slight against the artwork, though; Robert Atkins is, in many ways, perfect for this book, but there are moments of confusion that spoil an otherwise competent book. Chuck Dixon, too, seems to be coasting on past experience; the book is by no means a bad one, but it lacks substance and the necessary excitement to make it a truly standout piece amongst the G. I. Joe trademark.
