I gave a glowing review to the 1st issue and I'm happy to say that issue 2 has continued the trend. I gave the art a 5 in issue #1 and a 4 this time around but I don't think its gotten worse. If anything I think the action in issue 2 was beautifully drawn. I was just so happy with IDW's choice of art style (and artist) when issue 1 came out that I had to give them full marks. This time around, I know what to expect and I don't want to oversell it. 5's are reserved for the best and this art is good but I wouldn't say its the best out there.
The story gets a 5 because I am entertained and hooked. In two issues they have created a world in which G.I. Joe exists as a very large clandestine operation. The vehicles and technology in G.I. Joe demand that the active combat JOEs have a large support staff and the IDW creative team seems to get that.
My favorite parts of any story are the character driven moments, the conflicts, the hard decisions and the desire to connect with someone regardless of how messed up the situation is. I hope to see that in the future in this book. It's been hinted at in issue 1 with Beachhead's/Duke's conversation and between Scarlett/Snake Eyes with her trusting him to do his own thing.
Final thought; Destro and the Baroness were both designed and drawn perfectly.
Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
