I actually enjoyed this issue a lot more than I thought I would.  The idea of the kids stopping off at their favorite places on their way to the town of Tranquility just didn’t appeal to me at first.  But Beatty and Huddleston (who I’m glad is back doing the art btw) really have fun with this issue.  Those who are hungry for more appearances by characters from Number of the Beast get a cool cameo at the beginning of the issue.  Then the kids enter SK8-GRA-LA (love the name) which is the skate park Grunge wanted to stop at.  It’s build like something out of Mad Max and it’s so ridiculous that it’s awesome!  I mean it’s something that would never work outside of a comic book but here, especially with Huddleston drawing it, they make it into such a fun concept.  And Huddleston’s on his A-game in this issue, mainly with all the little details he inserts that tailor to each of the kid’s personalities.  He really gets these characters and his cartoony transitions are well placed. I caught smiling and chuckling to myself as I got the visual jokes he inserts.  The one thing that had me worried about having the Gen 13 kids in World’s End was losing the sense of fun the book has always had.  Beatty and Huddleston are doing a great job of blending comedy with the current state of the world while sprinkling some dark humor in as well (see the truth about the soup in the issue for a great example of this).   But the final image showing the two people Roxy encounters was the most hilarious image in the whole issue for me.  And fans of the T.V. Show Seinfeld will get a laugh at the title of the next issue listed at the end.

The Tao backup story continues its massive revelations as we learn more about Tao’s manipulations and his role in Armageddon.  There’s been so many reveals in this last 8 pages (part 2 & 3) of this story, I can’t imagine what else Christos Gage has packed into those last four pages in the final part of the backup story coming out next week in Stormwatch P.H.D #19.  This is easily the most important of all the World’s End backup stories so far.
