I really enjoyed this book.  This is an excellent conclusion to this mini-series but is a stand alone story.  If I had to pick a favorite line it would have to be “Nothing but Carrots and Candles for the rest of us”.

Garth Ennis paints a stark portrait of the atrocities of war.  The only other book that I can think of that examines the plight of the bomber is Catch-22, the difference being that in Night Witches, you examine the targets of the bombs.  I like the sympathetic hatred that Ennis builds towards the Germans.  There are some very memorable panels: the medic panel, the Squad Mutt for dinner and of course the final panel.  This book doesn’t leave you with a very fuzzy feeling in the end but is definitly worth the read.
