Few horror artists have excited me as much as Bernie Wrightson. It was always a treat to open up an ol warren rag and see him in Creepy and Eerie scaring the crap out of me.
But it was the illustrated Franknstein that really made me take notice of truly what kind of artist he was. Classic, contemporary, stunning…three words that just scratch the surface when describing his work. When I read he was revisiting Frankenstein’s monster I was in heaven…

Then I read the book…

This book was strong artwise, but I expected that. What I didn’t expect was for Steve Niles to knock it out of the park with his script. Some of the pages evoke the feel of the old Universal pictures if they were put on paper instead of film. There is so much energy and love there that it makes me wish James Whale had been able to adapt this to film. This has to be some of the best work I have seen since the old Bruce Jones/Wrightson magic that was Freak Show (God di I love that story!) And this is close to that in my mind. Easily the best book I have read all year, and when I see Bernie at Heroescon this year I plan to tell him so…

You will be ripping yourself off by not taking a look at this…I cannot give it a higher recommendation…
