Issue #1 of “Lois Lane and the Resistance” was a mediocre book with more unintended laughs than interesting plot points. Issue #2 was a dramatic turn around and was thoroughly entertaining. Now we have issue #3, the finale to Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s Flashpoint tie-in series. What I really liked about the second issue was the focus on the Resistance. They’re such a quirky but cool assortment of characters ranging from the gun-wielding Grifter to the screeching Canterbury Cricket. Yes, Lois was put on the back burner but the book worked for me.

Here, Abnett and Lanning give us more Lois and plenty of the Resistance. But the main focus is on the Resistance’s trump card, Britannia. We get an interesting connection to the Flashpoint Wonder Woman book as well as an ending that directly connects to the upcoming Flashpoint #5. We’re given some really fun action sequences and the same satisfying character interactions that I enjoyed in the last book. Considering this series’ slow start, consider me shocked at how much I enjoyed these last two issues.

Christian Duce is the third artist in three issues. Often times this can be a problem but Duce follows Gugliotta’s work from issue #2 with a really good looking book. He uses a crisp, polished style that works well in both the action sequences and character panels. There are a few panels where the attention to detail seems to drop but overall I loved the look and tone of the book. It was certainly more than I expected and a nice compliment to the story.

Abnett and Lanning have actually managed to make “Lois Lane and the Resistance” one of the better Flashpoint mini-series. As a whole it’s not perfect but it steadily gets better as it progresses. This issue provides a fun, action-packed ride brought to life by Duce’s impressive artwork. It’s another one of those books that is set to wrap up in “Flashpoint” #5 so the satisfaction of the ending hinges upon that. But on it’s own merits, this issue was another nice surprise and was very satisfying.
