Many of the Flashpoint tie-in books have been fun, exciting, and add to the scope of the Flashpoint event. Then you have those that are dull, silly, and basically pointless. Without a doubt “Flashpoint Hal Jordan” falls into the second category. Issue #1 offered very little in terms of Flashpoint relevance but had just enough question in it’s ending to bait me in for issue #2. But after reading the second book, the story feels even less important and does nothing to make me even care about what takes place.

Adam Schlagman’s writing is subpar at best and his story is a hodgepodge of disjointed plot points and poorly written dialogue. The story jumps around from place to place and never establishes itself. Simple and unimaginative dialogue can be found throughout the issue which points to this being an ill-conceived and unneeded book. We get a few invisible jets and a Green Lantern nuke reference  but otherwise this story adds nothing to the Flashpoint world.

Cliff Richards’ art shines on a few pages but looks rushed and almost unfinished on others. Most panels lack any attention to detail and the washed out colors don’t help. It’s not a terribly ugly book but there’s nothing that stands out as good work. In truth, the art looks just as uninteresting as the story.

This isn’t an awful story but it certainly isn’t that good. The art follows suit which makes for an issue that I would easily recommend skipping. There are some fun Flashpoint tie-ins out there. Sadly none of the Green Lantern Flashpoint books are worth your hard earned money.
