We’ve already had Flashpoint Abin Sur which leads us to believe that he keeps the ring and remains the Green Lantern for earth’s sector. Naturally, the question remains what becomes of Hal Jordan?

Writer Adam Schlagman explores how Hal fits into the Flashpoint world. This issue feels alot like Hal’s original orgin story except that Ferris Air has been given government defense contracts to patrol the coastline for potential Atlantean threats. This Flashpoint plot twist comes into play during a really fun and original dogfighting sequence. Overall this is a fun story even though it offers us little in the way of new or meaningful direction.

I really liked Ben Oliver’s art. His fantastic character designs and action panels mixed with Allen Passalaqua’s stylishly vibrant colors really works. The book’s beautiful brushed look is very appealing and the realistic style is quite fitting. My only gripe is with the layout of some of the panels. They look nice but aren’t always that easy to follow.

This was a nice surprise. Although there isn’t a lot offered in terms of new story or important direction, the story is well contructed and the Flashpoint tie-in is enough to give it some weight. The final page sets up the meat of the series and combined with the really nice art, this is one of the better Flashpoint tie-ins.

  1. Wow, u took the words right outta my mouth.  That’s the second time I’m not gonna have to write my own review this week cuz someone else felt the exact same way.

I totally agree with you about the art except that most of it had very plain backgrounds.  The brushed look really made up for it though!!  Especially in the people’s faces!!  I wonder what else those creators have done in the art department.

Not that I’m saying the story wasn’t great either, but it certainly did seem more like quick “hurry to the next panel” type filler then good old “honest to God” original storytelling.  What can you expect from aneven tie in where you have to utilize pre-existing characters.
