This mini-series is apparently all leading towards a big September 2011 renumbering initiative for DC comics. All (at least 52) of their monthly comic books will start again at issue #1 come this fall, and Flashpoint should be a HUGE event leading into that historic happening.  This book is gonna get everyone amped-up for the creative and marketing explosion imminent in the coming months, right? 

Nope. 

One of my favorite comic writers, Geoff Johns, explains to us that a villain named Reverse-Flash has changed reality to fuck with the heroes of this world.  Echoes of Marvel's House of M event from a few years back come through here. Also, it seems as if Geoff Johns has been watching some Fringe.  Batman's dad Thomas is the Caped Crusader in this world, as it was his son Bruce Wayne that was killed by a thug.  I tried to care...to no avail.  Later in the book it is revealed that this is not in fact an alternate reality but the new reality, and i thought again fondly of when Bendis did this successfully.  But back to my reality, this comic, right now.  I love both Johns and Kubert, but halfway through the book, found myself wanting it to end so that i could read Fear Itself.

I suppose I'm quite excited about the big renumbering, it should bring some attention to some good books by great creative teams.  Flashpoint itself, which leads into that craziness, has that great creative team.  It just seems like they think nobody's really looking yet. Issue 3 can only be more impressive.
