Well, it’s been a llllooooonnngggg time since the last issue of this series came out.  I think it’s been 2 or 3 months.  Of course, a delay of that nature requires me to bust out the previous issues just so I can refresh myself with what’s going on.  And really, I’m glad I did because I don’t think I would have had any idea as to what was going on in this issue.  With my mind refreshed, I was really able to sink my teeth into this issue, and I wholeheartedly enjoyed it.  Azzarello is doing a nice job crafting a mystery that is drawing all of our First Wave heroes into one place.  I think the conclusion to this story is going to be epic pulp awesomeness.  It’s just too bad that the series hasn’t hit its time tables because I think that will kill this series for a lot of people.  Also, I wish that the letterer would use some sort of visual cue with some of the text boxes.  The boxes jump from character as they speak off screen, and sometimes it’s hard to discern who’s talking, causing you to re-read pages or sequences.  It completely messes up the flow of the story.

Rags Morales is a great artist, and I love his work on this series.  It has a very lighthearted edge to what is otherwise very serious drawing.  Each character sort of has their own unique style to match their character type.  Doc Savage is drawn very seriously with grave expression and heavier lines.  The Spirit is a little bit more cartoony with exaggerated poses and a lighter line.  Batman is drawn in strictly the superhero style.  The crazy thing is that it all blends together seamlessly and looks great.  At no point, did I feel lost in the story.  Grade A stuff here.
