Whoa! The first serious misfire amongst what has been, up until now, a fine collection of tie-ins to DC’s Summer to Winter event.

I suppose it was appropriate that Len Wein get the writing gig for Libra’s Secret Origin, but stylistically his scripting is all wrong when viewed alongside the other efforts during Final Crisis. Much like many of the old guard writers, Wein seems to have trouble adapting his style to a more modern approach – he makes an effort to update, but it feels forced and hackneyed. My life would not have been incomplete without readng this, but unfortunately I’m something of a completist.

The Crime Bible page was incomprehensible, and that wasn’t just down to the strange choice of colour of text against background.

The only saving grace were the several pages devoted to Grant Morrison & J G Jones’ Final Crisis sketchbook, but I could not in any real sense recommend this comic on the basis of that.

  1. I agree with everything you wrote, although I didn’t mind the main story quite as much. The Morrison and Jones pages were the highlight of the book, and along with the cover they kept me happy with my purchase. I could only bring myself to skim the page of the Crime Bible, which is an artifact I’ve passed on every opportunity to learn about because it doesn’t seem interesting to me.

  2. Thoses glimpses into the backstory Grant prepares for even the most cameo appearance of characters are great.

I would definetely like too see more of Doc Fate and his Pulp Earth, and Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters on Earth 10.
