Lets take a look at a couple of the reasons why The Rogues are in no shape or form cool.  For one just look at them.  They have absolutely horrid costumes.  We are talking about some of the most outdated duds second to only The Legion of Super-Heroes here.  Next lets tackle these “super” villains names.  Captain Cold?  The Trickster? Really?  I mean come on.  They are not cool!  A guy in a fuzzy parka and silly glasses does not instill fear in me… at least that is not till Geoff Johns came around and did the impossible.

The Rogues are bad-ass?  This is insane!  How did he do that?  Captain Cold is so well fleshed out that I am hard pressed to think of any other villain in the DCU that feels so real.  This is a guy who knows he looks silly.  He knows he came up with a terrible name for his super villain self but he doesn’t care.  It’s all he could come up with and in a way that makes him feel that much more real and that much more crazy.  Well what really makes him feel crazy is his family problems.  Talk about a guy with a chip on his shoulders.

When I picked up the first issue of Rogues Revenge I wasn’t a fan of the art.  After reading it though I realized that it complimented the story perfectly.  I couldn’t imagine this feeling so raw with a different art style and that goes double for issue 2.

In the end all I can say is… Thank you Geoff Johns.  This is great!

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. Your opening paragraph is awesome.  They all seem to be as lame as could be, and yet, now, they kick ass.

  2. Thanks Neb.
