Just recently, I was straining to think if there had been anything
Geoff Johns had done that I thought rated anything less than superb.
It's only lately that I've gotten some candidates for an answer in
Faces of Evil: Solomon Grundy, which was pretty meh, and this book.
Then again, I don't really think the fault here lays with Johns. In my
eyes, he's working an uphill battle by trying to get me interested in
the Legion of Superheroes. You had might as well call me Uninterested
Lad, because it just isn't going to happen. Though the parts with
characters I care about (Prime, Ion, Superman, and a certain
you-know-who at the end, even if I would have rather seen them come
back as anything but the kid version) are very enjoyable to read, I
find myself struggling to get through any portion of these issues that
are Legion-heavy. It's not that I think they're not well-done. If I
was a Legion fan, I'd probably have some pretty tight pants right now.
But from where I sit, taking a team that makes the Justice Society look
minuscule by comparison, multiplying that number by three and expecting
me to identify, care, or even follow (despite that each word balloon in
this issue features character names both mentioned and reiterated) is
categorically insane. Believe it or not, I mean that in a good way. I
respect the man for trying, and he even got a smirk or two out of me
thanks to bickering Brainiacs. The small moments, and the rather
beautiful and quite detailed art, may be all that saves Lo3W from me
thinking it to be the albatross around Johns' neck... but then again,
it's still early.

This series is definitely Johns’ geek-splosive tribute to his love for the Legion and Prime. It’s almost as if he created a barrier around the proceedings with signs saying "Die Hard Fans ONLY."
Of course, being caught up on the lore and a long time Legion and Prime fan, this was heaven. Of course, I can also understand why new readers hoping this would be a good introduction to the Legion are scratching their heads.
