This issue did something
that is very rare when it comes to me. It was a first issue so bad, I won’t be
picking up the rest of the series.
Between the insanely bad art that was trying so hard to be Ben Templesmith, but failing so miserably at it and the story which was had the incredibly awesome pun of calling Liberty Hill, wait for it, Liberty Hell. I don’t expect a lot from DC anymore, but this is worse than the secret agency in Superman being department 7734. At least that takes the intelligence of a 5 year old to figure out.
I hated this issue so much. The cops don’t respond to a bank robbery but send an entire swat team to pick up a guy to take downtown, when he’s a member of the freaking Justice League that also just stopped a robbery. Of course the police captain is investigating a low level street murder, so I guess it makes sense he’d deploy all of his men to help him close the case.
I was really expecting Avengers invaders to be the worst book I read this week, but this was worse than anything I’ve read in a year. I’m still trying to figure out why a samurai would have ninja stars, which makes about as much sense as knight having an Indian spear.
The cover is also one of the ugliest pieces of comic art I’ve ever seen. 0/10

I’m still trying to figure out why a samurai would have ninja stars
Have you seen tattoos? Hell, Hayden Panettiere got a word spelled wrong. A dude getting inked with a samurai holding a ninja star isn’t much of a stretch. Historically accurate? Maybe not. Accurate for tattoos? Absolutely.
Also, the cops took Mark in because the police chief is on the take and wants to hide it. The captain is investigating the murder because the dead guy was paying him bribes. It’s right there on the page where the murder is called in. I don’t mean to defend the series, we like what we like, but this stuff is definitely in the book.
