YES!!! That was the reaction I had in the middle of reading this book! I physically raised my fist in triumph in the middle of reading in jubilation… and then realized I was in public quickly looking around to see if the people around had noticed. I then had to stop myself from doing it again on the last teaser image! The feeling of joy I had while reading this issue is what comics are all about in my opinion and Brubaker and Guice delivered on that feeling on many levels. If you, like me, got a sour taste in your mouth from Fear Itself this issue may help wash away some of the sour taste and prepare you for the awesome tasty beverage awaiting us next year! I love Ed Brubaker's original Captain America run and equally loved his rejuvenated Bucky/Winter Soldier making him one of the more interesting “new” characters from the Marvel universe. For that reason alone I bought this issue and it did not disappoint. Brubaker knows these characters inside and out, Fraction had a very tentative grasp on Captain America and this issue just shows how Brubaker voice for Steve Rogers is unique and… By God! Just feels right! The characters of Steve Rogers, Nick Fury and Black Widow are spot on along with Spoiler Warning!!! Bucky! That's right! Not only is he not dead but he's back where he is most interesting and belongs, as the Winter Soldier! Cap and Bucky have always worked better together from World War II onwards and when Bucky took on the mantle of Cap, while it was fun, it never quite felt right. Butch Guice is better than ever, his work is beautiful here! He seems to have found a unique blend of Kirby and a painterly style that makes the page beautiful and pop with energy at the same time. The fact that he is drawing the Winter Soldier ongoing series (that's right!) Has me overjoyed! When Bucky was “killed” In Fear Itself it felt pointless. It was there for shock value and considering the character had only recently come back from “the dead” felt odd. Now there is actually some good to come out of this event with the new status quo for the character and the ongoing book on the horizon! Between Captain America, Captain America and Bucky, Fear Itself 7.1 Captain America and a new ongoing Winter Soldier series in the future, Brubaker is once again firing on all cylinders!!! Brubaker's original run was amazing and who knows? Maybe we can go home again.
