I had no idea what to expect with this issue, I just know that I keep expecting there to be a point at which I can say, yeah, Hickman is running out of ideas. This was not the issue when that happened, and honestly, her rally makes me jealous.

This issue reads like and Elseworlds story because it is the story of the FF from another Earth. I will not count this as a spoiler because it is revealed in the first 3 pages but it is a FF that came to be in Nazi Germany. It is quite a different take on the characters and really kind of resonates with some of Hickman’s Non-FF Marvel work thematically. When the end finally rolls around, we find that this does tie back into what we have read from Hickman already, although it is not important to the past (and probably has only cursory importance for the future of FF.)

The last comic I read with Mike Choi pencils was a Green Lantern book and I hated it. This was a delightful surprise and I quite enjoyed it. It felt right for the material and I liked the cleanliness of his faces. I am not done with my pile yet, but I know this is definitely in contention for my pick of the week.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Yes, I’m behind on my reading, too, but I gave this the PotW. I think it is on a level a bit higher than most – of not all – of the comics in my “to read” list are.

I’d welcome more alternate FF one-shots. Maybe a mini devoted to that is in order, Marvel?
