I was skeptical at first when this run started but after I heard so many good things about Hickmans storytelling I had to check it out and jumped on last issue. I have never been a big fan of the Fantastic Four but I do have a reverence for the characters and an understanding of how they are meant to interact, and holy shit did Hickman do right.

The banter between Ben and Johnny and Sue was actually funny. The way Sue took charge as the balance to “absent minded professor” act of Reed was very nice too. And then when dialogue ceased for almost 11 pages, I really saw how well Hickman and Eaglesham worked together in doing what comics do best, telling a story with only the art to guide us. If this is what the Fantastic Four is going to be from now on I am very happy to keep reading.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

Comments

  1. Hickman has a talent for doing a lot in just a few words. The Anti-Bendis if you will. I said early on it was amazing how in one issue he could swing this around and hoped he could keep up the quality. So far so good.

  2. Ha! I dropped Pax Romana because it was too wordy and convuluted.  But Hickman is really going to scifi roots of this book and doing it great.  Art was a little awkward at times (susan’s breasts in the very first frame) but amazing in others (loved the shot of the Four in the "Did anyone order pizza" panel)
