I had zero interest in picking this issue up.  Until Pak’s run, I’ve never been a Hulk fan, and Loeb’s Rulk nonsense cleansed any interest in the Hulkverse from my mind.  But a customer came in and said “They’re supposed to finally reveal who Rulk is in this issue.  I just read it, and, it seems like the reveal was there, but…I…I have no idea what this is supposed to be.  Help?”

So here’s how I’m going to help everyone with this question: STOP READING THESE TERRIBLE COMICS OUT OF A NEED TO KNOW WHO RULK IS.  If you’re enjoying it, and apparently some of you are, keep reading it, and have fun.  If you’re not enjoying it, stop reading it,  You want to know who Rulk is?  Imagine the most disappointing person Loeb could come up with to be Hulk’s foil.  Because it’s not going to be satisfying.  It’s been two years of comics that you’ve mostly hated.  There is NO way he’s going to have a satisfying reveal.  Unless it’s Jean Gray.  That would be bad ass.

This issue combined, in my opinion, the least interesting Rogues gallery in Marvel (MODOK is rarely written well, unfortunately), combines it with the incredibly dull Eternals, and then the toxic Rulk storyline.  The art is fine, but the story was just absolutely unreadable to me.  And it’s not directly Loeb’s fault for a change.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. The Eternals are not really part of this story. They are only on about 4 pages and are just background. It is about the super-smart Marvel villains. If you like the cavalcade of big brains, this is fun. If you think Wizard, Mad Thinker, and the Red Ghost are lame… well, it might not be your cup of tea.
