I really like the idea that Prometheus was released from his mental prison by the death of Martian Manhunter; how often do story arcs end with one or other character taking the villain out by absorbing them / sending them to another dimension / subsuming their consciousness into their own. It makes sense that when that hero dies there should be some sort of effect on the assimilated bad guy, but with the various twists and convolutions of continuity these things get forgotten. But not here, so congrats to Mr Gates for crafting another little twist into the death of J'Onn J'Onzz.
Aside from that, the brief view of the Morrison-era JLA was a joy, but not as much as a chance to see Blood Pack in action again (anyone? They were very minor early 90's heroes created in DC's Bloodline annuals waaaay back when); I was only wondering what had happened to Argus just the other day!
All the essentials of this character were here: the mini-cd playing helmet that downloads information & fighting styles into Prometheus' noggin, the weird otherworldly key that gives him access to his Crooked House base of operations and the ruthless ambition to defeat the JLA.
What I was less keen on was the artwork. The faces were too photo-referenced and the backgrounds too sketchy for my taste and the colouring was... just odd; washed out with some strange choice of tones.
If the relaunch of the JLA's book gives Prometheus a new lease of perfidious life, then so much the better. But a guy in this kind of rivetted armour doesn't need photorealistic art; he ain't real!
