After the first issue of this book, many questions were asked. I’m really not sure how many of those questions were answered by this issue, but I’m still loving it. I’m not normally a huge Hickman fan and while I recognize he is very methodical and deliberate with his scripts, sometimes he takes a while to get to the point. This series however reminds me of all the best parts of shows like Lost. We’re thrown into this world we don’t quite understand that is familiar only because we’re told so. We are constantly meeting characters that are much more aware of this world than we as the readers are, it works very well as a sort of opposite Dramatic Irony. If I had one complaint about the writing it would be that the “Great Evil stored in the body of a child” trope has gotten really really played out in the past few years, especially in comics. However, this is not my complaint with this comic, as even the Four Horsechildren of the Apocalypse seem alive and vibrant as characters. There isn’t a lot to say about Dragotta’s art, it’s very kinetic and visceral without crossing over into “Gritty” territory. It’s still very fun and while it is a departure from his norm, it works very well for this series. Image is really proving that their formula is working, that formula being if you hire good creators and let them run wild with their ideas, you’ll probably get a lot of really really good comic books.

Story: 5 - Excellent
