Robinson’s writing is troublesome. The quality of it is reminiscent of his run with Justice League of America after Meltzer/McDuffie (around 2008?). The stories — as a whole — were good (from one end of the book to the other). Except, the storytelling was boring. No personality. Just verse.

His writing is like describing a building in detail. Bricks, foundation, architecture, etc. But, nothing about the lives of the people in it or the lives of the people who built it. The deep and substantial stuff.

After years of trying to get into DC comics. Years of giving DC second chances. Earth 2 is thematic of most of the subsidiary (and many of the main) characters in the DC universe: never compelling enough of a story or enough personality to keep interest for more than about 10 issues.

While my collection has lots of 100-issue runs, none of them are from DC. I have, however, lots of 10-25 issue runs of DC (second chance) efforts…

What does that say?

I like Nicola’s art. Very nice! I keep getting it for that. And, I’m compelled to learn more about these Earth 2 characters. Dr. Fate, Green Lantern… I’m curious to see who’s next, and will probably get another 5 issues while Robinson fills out the roster. After that, I will be bored and that will be the end of it…

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good

  1. I’m not really a fan of James Robinson, but this review just makes you sound dismissive of the DC Universe in general.
