When Bruce Wayne came back from….  well wherever the hell he came back from, a lot of folks were under the impression that all the quality Bat-teams would be traveling with Bruce wherever Morrison has him this month (I think Japan) and the the rest of the Bat-teams would be stuck in Gotham City writing stories about Dick Grayson that wouldn’t turn out to be as fun or interesting.  Most of that imformation is correct except for the latter.  Detective Comics might not be the current home of the “original” Batman, but nobody ever said stories about the second string Batman couldn’t be just as much fun IF NOT MORE!!!

After all, Detective Comics might not feature the “original” Batman, but it is the “original” Batman comic.  Detective Comics was telling stories of “The Batman” before Bats got his own Bat-magazine about two years later (1940).  That’s just a little history info for you which makes it feel as Tec is definitely a proper home for a more “pulp” like Bat-experience.  It seems like the current arc actually helps this title live up to its name (“Detective”)

Everything seems to fit together in the past couple issues of Tec.  The story fits the pencils just fine, and the inks fit the pencils perfectly, and the colors just make it all work together splendidly.  That goes for both teams by the way.  The Jim Gordon second feature is just as beautiful to look at as everything else they put here.  It’s going to be a real shame to not see it here again next month!!  This is one second feature I don’t mind paying an extra dollar for an extra bit!!  Now that they finally got a Gotham related second feature I can give two shits about, they’re gonna take it away?!!   DAMN!!!

I never got past issue #3 of American Vampire before I decided it would probably be more cost efficient to just wait until a couple trades come out before jumping back over, so I don’t know very much about Scott Snyder other than what he’s done here so far, but I got to tell you, his creepy mystery rolls with the punches quite swell for a dark “pulp” experience that truly lives up to the name, “Detective.”

Story: 5 - Excellent

  1. okay you say you love it, but you didn’t say what about the issue stood out or anything of interest. though i don’t doubt its briliance.

  2. I try to write reviews that don’t spoil anything.
