To call DETECTIVE COMICS #15 a "Death of the Family" tie-in is being a bit generous, so if you're only giving it a look because of the crossover, this really adds nothing to it. Anyway. I came for the crossover, but I stayed for the story, which features Batman versus Clayface. I don't know if this is a continued story; it reads like it could well be a one-off that just started in media res. Either way, I had no trouble diving into this Batman story - a good enough read, all told. The story does plant a few interesting seeds for later regarding the Penguin's criminal empire, to the point that I almost want to pick up future issues of DETECTIVE to check out where it goes. I suppose, arguably, some of that could be relevant to the Death of the Family, but it feels at best tangential to the crossover. Fabok's art is quite workable, and everyone looks like they should - if there's a problem with the art I think it's that it's too competent without taking any significant chances. It works but it doesn't stand out. This is a fine issue on its own, but if you just want the "Death of the Family" stuff, you'll probably be disappointed.
