There was a time when Detective was my book of choice. Now? Not so much. I have no dea how Tony Daniel managed to Helm this book, but his stories have been half baked concepts at best bolstered by art that is formulaic and derivative. Ed Benes s a step up in the art deptartment but the writing is still stilted and worse then cliche, it is boring. The worst thing that can be said about this book is that it is uninspiring and bland… The last thing a Batman book, especially Detective Comics, should be.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 2 - Average

Comments

  1. I couldn’t agree more. It’s upsetting.

  2. I dropped this after issue 1, glad that was the right choice.

  3. It was not that bad, I really liked this issue; for some reason it reminds me of those old Batman stories from the 50’s where he used to fight aliens and he would become invisible, or electric, or submarine, or gained strange abilities. I’m intrigued about the Mr. Toxic/Gas Man name change; I wonder whether they realized too late the many jokes you can make with Mr. Gas.

  4. Disappointing issue.

Worst Bat-book I currently buy, and if next issue is like this one, I’ll move my $4 to something more satisfying.
