“Destroyer” is another example of a sophomoric comic being labeled “Mature” just because it is violent. In this issue, Kirkman introduces us to a cast of paper thin characters, including the white protagonist, the Destroyer (A rip-off of his own series “Brit”) and his black wife and kids. You can almost see the wheels turning in Kirkman’s head. “I got it! I’ll give this ultraviolent “superhero” a black family, so people will sympathize with him, even though he commits atrocious acts of violence. Sure, he may be a violent animal, but at least he’s not a racist! And black people are so hot right now.” This comic was so vapid, it was offensive. What a waste of a good artist.

Story: 1 - Poor

  1. While I’m in complete agreement over this being really sophomoric, two-dimensional, and poorly written, I’m not so sure about him making the family black so people would sympathize with him.  I don’t see what it has to do with anything, actually.
