DEMON KNIGHTS is ramping up the tension surrounding the siege of Little Spring, and after last issue’s bloody wall-to-wall action, #3 is the eye of the storm.

Our heroes have time to survey their predicament, and they know that the other side of the storm is coming soon enough. So we get some good character glimpses from everyone, really, and that’s nice: it’s a big cast, and that’s tricky to juggle. We still don’t have a great deal of DEPTH with anyone yet, but their respective reactions to this dire situation are telling all the same.

And it’s all quite pretty. The art succeeds at striking a good high fantasy flavor, more Dungeons & Dragons than Lord of the Rings. The characters have good, established, unique looks, and you can believe that, amongst the peasantry of this little town, they are true paragons of their craft. They are larger than life.

But I’d hesitate to call them all heroes. But every D&D group needs one guy who plays the complete jerk, right?

  1. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s having to work at keeping all of the characters straight. I find myself referring to issues #1 and #2 … ‘who was that guy …?’ I find the art absolutely gorgeous… but DN isn’t grabbing me I’ll give it a few more issues. Good review.
